FIRST SUMMER CAMPERSHIP APPLICANTS

Applications are reviewed by the JACF Campership Application Review Team.  JACF Campership awards are based on a variety of factors, including the applicant’s qualifications, financial need, funds available each summer for Camperships, the diversity of the applicant pool, and geographic dispersion. Not all applicants are awarded Camperships and recipients are not guaranteed their first choice of camp. Before you begin, review the Income Eligibility Guidelines to ensure that you qualify.

Submission Deadline: December 1st (Any applications received AFTER this date will be considered as space permits.)

HOW TO APPLY FOR A JACF CAMPERSHIP:

step 1 buttonDesignate a Mentor

The FIRST THING a Camper Applicant should accomplish is to locate a non-familial adult who can serve as MENTOR. If you already have a Mentor, skip to step 2 below.

Campership Mentors volunteer for JACF to serve as a support system for the Applicant and Family as they complete the JACF application. If the Applicant is awarded a JACF Campership, the Mentor will continue their support of the Camper and Family through the camp enrollment process. Campers can apply for Campership renewal for multiple years, so the Mentor relationship could be a multi-year commitment.

Qualifications of a Successful Mentor:

  • Mentors must be at least 21 years old with current professional experience or prior background in education, youth development, counseling, coaching, ministry or other youth-related fields
  • Mentors will live in the Applicant’s geographic hometown
  • Mentors will have approximately two hours per month to support the Applicant and Family through the JACF application process and chosen camp enrollment process
  • Mentors will assist with Camper Contribution or Capstone Service Project as well as preparation for camp
  • Mentors will be willing to commit to Mentoring the camper for the full ‘life-span’ of the camp experience
  • Mentors must apply for a JACF Mentor/Volunteer position. This includes completion of a JACF Mentor application, successfully passing a criminal background and driving record check, compliance with JACF policies and procedures, and signing a volunteer release and waiver of liability
  • Mentors may NOT be related to the applicant

Applicants are welcome to direct a potential Mentor to the Volunteer page on our website to view and/or download the Mentor Guide which gives detailed information about serving as a Mentor.

Once you have a Mentor designated, collect the following contact information from your Mentor to have on hand as you complete the initial stages of the JACF application:

step 3 buttonCollect Reference Contact Information

The JACF First Summer Campership Applicant is required to have two JACF Letter of Reference Forms submitted on their behalf. The letters should be submitted by at least one current or former teacher and one additional non-familial professional that works directly with the Applicant. Only JACF Letter of Reference Forms will be accepted.
