THE FOUNDATION HAS GROWN
IN 20 YEARS!
1986
Summer - John Austin Cheley drafted a memo expressing
his desire to create a "fund to assist families
who desire the best for their children, but who cannot
quite handle the full cost of such a financial investment".
1987
January 21 - John Austin Cheley died suddenly from
a heart attack, and friends attending his service discussed
establishing a memorial in his honor.
1986-89
- Informal meetings were held in Estes Park, CO, with
a growing number of participants. On November 4, 1989,
the Foundation was created
to make Jack's vision a reality
to help provide
a camping experience for as many youth as possible.

Kassab, Robert Stafford, Ginny Stafford, Jack Chalender,
Bryant Denniston, Homer Evans, Earl Feldman, Pat Tuohy
Fenton, Bill Hottel, Anna Belle Kritser, Bill Root,
Ginny Stafford, and Jerry Wexler. Mary Lou Montgomery
Blair and Richard Smith joined the trustees in the second
year.
